- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5The premise: Bill's been a little distant lately, consumed with a top-secret project that even his boss Eric doesn't know about. Sookie's hurt by his distance, especially when he tells her he's going out of state. Then Eric and his crew show up on her doorstep and tell her he's missing, and that there's more going on with Bill that she ever realized. He's been tortured, they know that much, and he might even be dead. It's up to Sookie to go to Jackson, Mississippi to frequent the local hang-outs of vampires and Supes to see if she can read any human minds that might give her a clue. Especially when she learns that the people who took Bill are after her too.My RatingWorth the Cash: it's a good read, but an infuriating read in a lot of ways. Harris took a real risk with Sookie and Bill, and I'm interested in seeing how that plays out for the rest of the series, especially for Sookie, who deserves a little freedom. Again, I wish the central mystery hadn't been so contrived (or maybe it should've been explained better?) because things were solved a bit too easily in the end, plot-wise, even if relationship wise, everything's a mess. Still, I'm ready to keep reading, which is still surprising me, because usually I get tired of the characters and situation really fast and need distance between books. That just goes to show how different each book has been, and how Harris isn't rehashing the same old plot. At least, she's not yet. :)The full review, which includes spoilers and a wee bit of profanity, may be found in my LJ. As always, comments and discussion are most welcome. :)REVIEW: Charlaine Harris's CLUB DEADHappy Reading! :)
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5I'm obsessed with these books as audio books. I watch True Blood and it is fun to listen to the original books to see how they are different from the show. Plus I love the narrator. She sounds like Anna Paquin. She does a great job. I would recommend listening to this series instead of reading them.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5My favorite book of the series so far. It's interesting to slowly see more and more of the supernatural world Charlaine Harris has created. In this book, Bill is missing, and Eric sends Sookie and a werewolf named Alcide to Mississippi to find him. Of course, it's not that easy, and there happen to be a few murders along the way.
On a side note, I really like Bubba. I understand why he wasn't put into the TV series, but he's very entertaining. - Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5This was another great book in the Southern Vampire series. I read it in one day. Unfortunately, I had read books 4 and 5 before this one, so I knew the major plot points before I went in. Even so, it was an interesting and exciting. This is the book where Sookie meets Alcide, and Bill is kidnapped! So it is up to Sookie to find out where Bill is being held. We get more of Eric in this book, and Bubba! Always fun to see Bubba. This is a good addition to the series.
- Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5The only way I could get through all the Alcide was to try to picture him as Hugh Jackman. Even then, he was so not interesting or attractive to me. Then again, I'm just not a "man's man" type of girl. I have the feeling that most women who read vampire romances aren't into those kind of guys, either.
I'm fast learning that the parts I enjoy most include Eric. He was awesome in this book, and I loved that scene with him and Sookie in Russell's house. I also loved him flying up and knocking on Sookie's window. Next to Eric, I like all the vampire stuff (I love Pam), and the were stuff bores me immensely.
I do like that Sookie travels around the South. I'd never even heard of Jackson or Shreveport before reading these. Being from Canada, the American South is totally alien to me, and before True Blood it held very little interest, but I'm starting to appreciate the intricacies of Southern culture. Once you look past the rednecks and the bible-thumpers, there's a lot there. - Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Mmmm ... Alcide.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Great book!
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5This series is breezy, light, and very fun to read.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Third book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. It is a fun read narrated by Sookie. I like her voice in the book - it definitely makes the book funnier than the show True Blood. But you can't really compare the book to the show since each season is a lot different from the book such as expanding the roles of characters that are in the book for only a short time.
- Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5Still not a fan. I like so much about these, especially her supporting characters. (Bubba)
But they are getting more R rated in each book and that doesn't work for me. And they still just don't have that, "I'm hooked" factor.
Think it is time to move on. - Bewertung: 1 von 5 Sternen1/5No no no! Had to give up after this gem:
'Bill's Missing,' Pam said, shooting from the conversational hip.
'No, he's not. He's in Seattle,' I said. Willfully obtuse. I had learned that word from my Word-A-Day calendar only that morning, and here I was getting to use it. - Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5If you like Bill, you won't like this book. He's absent for most of it. And then he's despicable for the rest of it.If you like your heroine to explore the other side of supernatural beings.. the vampire's apparent opposite.. she totally spends most of her time with a werewolf in this one.Right in the beginning, it didn't sound like Sookie to me. Like Harris hadn't quite remembered what Sookie's character was like. I dunno. Also, Sookie's really annoying me. She learned the word 'maenad' from a romance novel, but had to learn the word 'libido' from her word-a-day calendar?Eric's hot and she should totally get with him if she's going to get with a vampire.Harris is annoying me with her inconsistencies. First Sookie tells us that Weres run hotter than normal humans. Then she's totally puzzling at why werewolf-dude keeps the apartment cold.First it's not cool for vamps to hook up with other vamps. Perverse. Totally stupid because there's some sort of ultra-bond between them. And that's sort of the whole point of the freaking book. Then Eric casually hooks up with this male vamp. With an ulterior motive (to escape), but also with no apparent qualms about it whatsoever. I guess one-night stands don't count or something? And Weres can only make other Weres by hooking up with another Were and only one kid will be a Were, no matter how many they have. Which is not the way to sustain your population! So forget any idea of werewolves mating for life. They almost have to have kids with 2-3 different people or all the Weres will die out. It's becoming clearer to me that Charlaine Harris may know how to make interesting characters, and craft a mystery, and make a decent romance, but she's not quite up on how to write a fantasy. How to do your world-building and not contradict yourself.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Read this book in one day - it was that good! This is my first Sookie Stackhouse book and the unique and lovable characters, along with an intersting plot, kept me interested all day. Besides, how could you NOT love the idea of Elvis --er Bubba--being a vampire?
- Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5I usually don't read vampire books for the same reasons I don't read romance novels. However, I liked the first two books in this series. This book is where I started not to like it as much. It seems she breaks up with her boyfriend so she can spend more time thinking about other men. Also there started to be too many subplots. I was fine with the one main plot; the extras just seemed to prolong the books.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5Book three in the Southern Vampire Series, it had a few other books to live up to. Let me tell you, it did not dissapoint. Club Dead is a faced paced, romantic-action-mystery-supernatural thriller that will keep you on your toes, and will have you fall in love with every character. First, we see Bill, the calm dependable vamp in Sookies life. We also see Eric, Bill's boss, and his two friends, Pam and Chow. Chow is a new oriental vampire that also works (with Pam) for Eric. The guy on the scene is Alcide, who is awesome. He's a werewolf who's sworn to help Sookie as she does some out of town investigative work.Alcide had to have been my most favourite part of the book, and I really hope that he shows up in the future - and hopefully not just as a buddy. He's an excellent character that treat's Sookie like the princess she is.Read this book, you will like it... if you're over 18, of course. It is "one of those" romance's!
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5I love this series. This particular installment bring up the whole life never goes quite how you think it will. It is the beginning of the series fall down the rabbit hole. Be on the look out for viking march hares. I love how Mrs. Harris makes the rabbit hole just where you always wanted to be.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5This is the third in the series I have not read the second I finished this ioh at least six months after starting it.What should have been a quick and easy read was interrupted by something and I obviously no great urge to pick it up again. Still it was enjoyable enough rather more so than the first.Bill, Sookies vampire lover has gotten himself captured by another vampires out who want toget their hanmds on a project he has beeb working on then they will kill him. Sookie who is having serious misgivings about their relationship is sent to rescue him posing as a werewolves new girlfriend.Better than the first? Yes. Better than average? No.
- Bewertung: 1 von 5 Sternen1/5I didn't care for it. The "mystery" was predictable and boring, the characters uncompelling, and I was expecting it to be funnier/cuter than it was.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5So in my out-of-order reading of the series, I've finally finished (at least the books that have been published to date- I can't wait until the next comes out!) So here's another where I saw the "True Blood" version before I read the book- not sure I have a preference between the two. I did expect the break up and explanations about Lorena to be spelled out a lot more clearly than they were from the later books I read. Sookie gets mad and won't talk to anyone. She also spends a lot of time resisting her apparently powerful urges to jump everyone constantly.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5This is the forth book of the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampires series. Bill is missing after he is send on a secret mission by the Queen of Louisiana. Sookie is given the responsibility to track down Bill and rescue him. She is helped in her quest by a werewolf. The True Blood series is much better than the books as it takes the basic concept and takes them to a new level. So if you like some paranormal then go watch the series and skip the books. I'm going to do the same.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5My favourite of the series so far! I found this one much quicker and the storyline was more streamlined and exciting to read. Knowing the the TV series skewed from the books around about this book made me excited to read what actually happened since I had already seen season 3 of True Blood. The introduction of Alcide is a welcome occurrence, and I find it so interesting that Sookie's batch of suitors in Bill, Eric and Alcide doesn't annoy me as much as similar story arcs in other book series do. (House of Night for example). Each relationship Sookie has with each man is very different and very believable; at least to me.Elvis as a vampire (Bubba) is a great, clever addition and I love imagining him in the vampire world :)I eagerly await for the next installment to arrive from eBay! :)
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5The more I read of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, the more I love them. These books have everything you could want in a book. Suspense, terror, friendship, sex, and a lot of tongue in cheek humor. So far all of Harris's Stackhouse novels have page-turning, can't put it down, hate to see it end thrill rides for me. Keep up the gret work, Ms Harris.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5Just quick notes here: I am no longer a Bill fan. He never really loved her, and since meeting him her life has kind of fallen apart. I need to add in the part where he leaves Sookie to hook up with his undead lover(yay the witch is dead) and basically gives her away to Eric even though she told him she wasnt property to give away. Can we say not-as-evolved-as-he-says-he-is?
On top of all this, Bill rapes her at one point. Uh, personally I would probably stake this guy first second I got. Half starved or not - this is NOT okay..especially when he was sleeping with his ex girlfriend. He basically just dumped Sookie, hooks up with his ex, and then comes back and forces himself on her. I literally thought, "If he needs sex after feeding, and doesnt care if the recipient is willing or not..what does that say about Bill?" I mean, even Eric worked hard to let Sookie maintain some of her dignity in the bed of Russel's house. AND ERIC IS FAR OLDER.
Nope. Bill. We were buddies, but now? You deserved the torture you got. And although technically you should get brownie points for telling the truth about banging your ex..you left your current girlfriend waiting for you so you could test things out with Lorena! I mean, jerk move. Sleazy. - Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5I like vampire murder mysteries as much as the next girl, but this one really didn't work for me. I think I prefer the TV show to the books. But I'm giving Sookie one more shot in a few weeks, if only because Charlaine Harris graduated from my alma mater.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5This one's my favorite of the series so far!
- Bewertung: 1 von 5 Sternen1/5Having watched the TV show I was curious about the books. Found this one to be almost identical to the show. The bits that hadn't made it to TV were a bit to like later Anne Rice books to be enjoyable. I know vampires are sexy but heavey handed porn with fangs is not something I want to read for page after page after page. Maybe I'm being a little harsh, what's good about this book is the setting. The Deep South is written so well you can almost hear the buzz of insects and feel the heat of the day.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5This book was brilliant!!! I was hesitant before in reading it as I'd read a lot of bad reviews about the series, but club dead has to be the best in the series so far, I was disappointed with Bill, but Alcide made up for it, I was laughing out loud throughout! I'd never thought that I'd find a book as good as twilight, but this is definitely up there!
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5Another delicious helping in the Sookie series! I just love these books, pure unadulterated fun and escapism! And the more I read, the more I fall for Eric!! I thought Bill was my one true love, but alas, he's being replaced!!
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5Very readable, easy to follow.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Great book -very entertaining series!
