Hannes Steiner

Hannes Steiner, geboren 1972 in Salzburg, ist ein echter Story-Junkie und der Gründer von story.one. In seiner Jugend war er ein erfolgreicher Schwimmer und aktiv in der österreichischen Wasserballnationalmannschaft. Nach seinem Abitur absolvierte er ein Studium in Recht und Betriebswirtschaft an der Leopold-Franzens Universität Innsbruck. Während dieser Zeit arbeitete er auch in der Buchhandlung seiner Eltern, wo er gerne Autor:innen und Keynote-Speaker:innen zu Veranstaltungen einlud. Schon da begeisterte ihn vor allem, dass sie alle eine einzigartige Geschichte zu erzählen hatten. Mit Ende zwanzig gründete Hannes Steiner den Ecowin Verlag. In kurzer Zeit wurde er zwei Mal zum Verleger des Jahres gekürt. Später arbeitete er an Projekten im Red Bull Media House, nachdem er den Verlag im Jahr 2013 an Red Bull verkauft hatte, um seine Leidenschaft in einem größeren Rahmen ausleben zu können. Jahrelang hatte er als Buchverleger das Privileg, Autor:innen an die Spitze vieler Bestsellerlisten zu bringen, doch mit der Zeit begann seine Begeisterung zu schwinden. Er war an seine Grenzen gestoßen. Gleichzeitig füllte sich sein Büro mit unzähligen Manuskripten. Obwohl nicht alle für ein langes Buch geeignet waren, waren sie doch alle mit außergewöhnlichen Geschichten gespickt. Immer mehr sehnte er sich danach, all diese großartigen Geschichten auf einmal zu veröffentlichen, doch er konnte keinen passenden Ort dafür finden. Mit Mut und voller Idealismus beschloss er schließlich, einen Vertrauensvorschuss zu geben: Er wollte Geschichtenerzähler mit guten Geschichten finden, ihnen eine Plattform bieten und alle ihre Bücher veröffentlichen. So entstand story.one. Life is a story, das seitdem wächst und wächst und vor allem begeistert. Hannes Steiner lebt mit seiner Familie in Wien.

The power of stories

Inside each of us is a great book waiting to be written. The reasons I’m convinced of this come not only from my years of experience as a book publisher, but also from the countless stories I have read or been told, and which have shaped me since my childhood. As a boy, every weekend my grandfather would tell me amazing tales about his life and this sparked in me a passion for stories. I can remember his stories to this day. They showed me how powerful and inspiring storytelling could be.
