- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5Loved the movie, glad to have finally found the book.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5This was a good book. I saw previews of the movie and wanted to read the book first. I was pulled in to the where Meggie and her father, who repairs books, suddenly get a visitor late one night and they have to leave their home. Meggie is used this, since they travel all the time and he takes her with him. This is a story that will keep you turning pages and reading. It pulls you in and keeps you there. It has suspense, adventure, and is a story of a father and daughter bond. It is a wonderful story for any one that wants a little bit of everything in one.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5This was a darker book than I expected. The idea of reading characters and objects out of books is a fascinating one, but the joy and wonder of that concept is completely lost in the horrible consequences that Mo and his family face because of his talent. Still it was a compelling read and I loved the fact that this family was a book-adoring family. One curious fact - the story is set primarily in north Italy and the author wrote it originally in German, but there isn't really any mention of whether Mo and Meggie speak multiple languages, etc. Just got me thinking.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5I really liked this book. The author has amazing imagry skills. I feel like I see and smell what she wants me to. I want to read the other two books as well now. The characters she created as well as the ones that are from a book inside the story were well developed. I loved her descriptions of writing the book from Fengolio's point of view. That must be how she feels. I also loved the way she described reading out loud by Mo and Meggie. They were both great images.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5The premise of this book is wonderful. Through a surprise talent that few possess, people are actually read in to and out of novels. But in reality, this is not such a good thing. Good people disappear and cannot be found, and bad people do appear, and cannot be gotten rid of. And thus a huge adventure begins. And goes on and on and on. The story is entertaining and thrilling in many parts, and sad and surprising in others. But it just does go on a bit too much, and I found my interest waning some and really, I just wanted it to end. But the conclusion, when it finally did arrive, made sticking with the audio worth it. But I’m not sure I want to dive right into the next book in the series. It really didn’t leave me wanting more.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5amazingly good,
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5This is a great fantasy about a girl who's father has the ability to "read characters out of books." He literally makes a story come to life.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5The branching story and overall mythology of the inkheart universe was really well-crafted, but at times it felt a bit tedious. It seemed the author found certain details interesting that I thought were entirely unnecessary. I was getting through the book fairly rapidly, until I got to the last quarter of the book where the pace slowed as the author was setting up the dominoes to fall toward the end of the story. Then the closing actions occurred incredibly fast, and yet again I found myself struggling through pages of unneeded text. It's really what kept this book from being five stars for me.
As far as content goes, this book was right up my alley. It's a book for people who love books. Every chapter starts with a quote from a classic book ranging from Lord of the Rings to Oliver Twist. The characters in the story love books and treat/talk about them with the reverence that any bookworm knows all to well. Definitely worth the slog it takes to finish. - Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5I totally LOVED this book!! The characters are so...real. They grow on you, or at least Dustfinger does!
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Loved this book. Loved the characters, the plot...it was just fantastic. I couldn't put it down.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5This is one of the most inventive and riveting books that I have ever read! Being an avid reader and lover of books, I was delighted to read a book about magic that allowed people to read characters to life, or, in some cases, go into the book. The characters, plot, and writing style were all superb. Recommended!
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Inkheart is the kind of book that appeals to children as well as adults. The question is what would happen if someone could read characters out of the pages of a book? The book Inkheart answers that question. There are fairies, trolls, evil people, good people every type of mythological character. It is an enjoyable story from the first page until the last. Therefore four stars were awarded to this book.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5Inkheart was one of the best most wonderful books I have ever read. I read it and loved it instantly. Dustfinger, Maggie, Moe and dear Eleanor all their journey and every word that was said in humor and in fright I loved Inkheart!
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Meggie's father discovers that he can pull characters out of their book by reading aloud and inadvertently brings forth the vilains from a dark children's story. Original plot, well written with a pace that clips along,I would not hesitate to recommend this to any of my ten year old friends. Although I must admit that the story ended a little abruptly for my liking.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5A fabulous fantasy novel where a book repairman and his daughter are able to read other characters out of books. Unfortunately the character that is read out of a book is a gangster who then torments the man and the rest of his family.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5If you want something short and sweet, here it is-THIS BOOK IS ON PAR WITH, IF NOT BETTER THAN, HARRY POTTER. That is basically my entire review in a nutshell, but if you want more details, keep reading......I loved this book in so many ways. It was original, interesting, and very unpredictable. All of the characters were likeable in their own way and none of them felt the least bit recycled. They were all entirely original and creative. The story itself was very fun. It balanced all of the elements of a good book brilliantly. There was action, smart dialogue, humor, and great character development. The book had the perfect length as well. Not too long for a book of this nature, and not too short either.Overall, this is one of the all time favorites, and I recommend that anyone who wants to have fun with a book and likes for their imagination to fly check this one out. Funke did a great job.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5A must read fantacy for anyone from the intermidiate to collage levels. This is a fantastic story about just how far a book can take you when several charecters of the fictional book "Inkheart" are brought into the real world. Packed with adventure and charecters that make you feal like you really know them this book is a must read.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5The perfect book for people who love books. An homage to the written word. Magic.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5I read this with my students as part of the school's book club and I enjoyed it tremendously...kid fiction can really be worthwhile! I was especially into the tenderness with which the characters talk about and handle books--it invigorated my love of reading!
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5a wonderful fantasy read, maggie's eyes are opened to a world where characters can be read out of books---or read in...(FORESHADOWING!)
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5Meggie and her father, Mo, have moved around a lot, and usually without much notice. When a man shows up in the yard in the middle of the night, it's time to go again. Thus the adventure begins, and the characters in the book Inkheart are brought to life- literally. Mo can read characters and items right off the pages of books and Capricorn, the evil villian, wants to exploit this power. This is a young adult novel and appropriate for 12+. There's a lot of action and some violence, though not explicit. This is the beginning of a series, though I do not feel compelled to continue it. Well-written and a good story. Food: old-school road food- apples, bread, cheese, and some beef jerky. This is sustenance for adventure, something you can bring with you when you aren't sure what lies ahead. Hearty, not decadent, and gives you energy in case you run into trolls.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5It was a pretty good book with an over drawn story. The book had some original ideas to add to the world of elves and fantasy. Think Neverending Story mixed in with a little LOTR. I felt that the movie had a better flow story wise and made more sense in terms of the given time-line.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5I liked this book a lot. It was a little slow to start and, as I recall, the last quarter or so was the most interesting and exciting part, but the rest of it was good as well.
- Bewertung: 3 von 5 Sternen3/5The story of Meggie's adventures when she discovers her father has a secret power - by reading aloud, he can summon things out of books - but is wanted by the evil Capricorn, who wishes to keep him prisoner to read at his command. None of the characters in this really clicked for me. The bad guys are Very Bad, the good guys bimble around mostly just getting captured. It is hard not to be charmed by Dustfinger and his horned pine marten, but then you wonder why, as he is consistently amoral and not actually that likeable.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5audio-fabulous fantasy
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5I read this book curled up in sunny landing in an old house surrounded by bookshelves and it seems like the perfect location to read this book. It's about books, loving books and the magic that can happen. Every bibliophile has had moments when it felt like the characters walked out of the pages to sit beside them and in this book, that's literally what happens to the heroine. It's a mixture of mystery, magic and adventure centring around a girl called Meggie and her father, Mo. The author creates great characters and really imbues the story with her love of books. It's a hard book to put down and definitely should not be seen as a children-only book because there's so much in it to enjoy.
- Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5I can't recall the last time I wanted to like a book this much. It's a phenomenal concept, but the prose is flat and long-winded. I finally had to pull the ripcord at about page 280 (the longest I have ever trudged through a book that was boring me). Ultimately disappointing.
- Bewertung: 2 von 5 Sternen2/5I found this book very dull and boring and had to force myself to read to get through it. I thought the characters were very one dimensional and over all it was very predictable.
- Bewertung: 4 von 5 Sternen4/5Really interesting story about a father who can "read" characters out of books. This continues in "Inkspell" and we're still waiting for the third in the series to finish the story. Fun to read.
- Bewertung: 5 von 5 Sternen5/5Many of my students were reading this book so I picked it up and gave it a try. I really enjoyed it. The plot is compelling and quite original, not something lifted out of Tolkien or J.K. Rowling. Watch for a sequel.
