Die Originalausgabe erschien 2007 unter dem Titel #lti#gtSnømannen#lt/i#gt bei H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. I just finished reading this the night before the movie adaptation premiered on HBO and I am soooo glad I read it first. I dont think I would have understood the film without it. Honestly, they should have turned this into a limited series. There was just so much detail and characterization and just plot that the movie epically failed to put forth. Such a shame. This was the first Harry Hole novel I've read. It won't be the last.I really liked Nesbo's way of dropping bread crumbs to the discovery of the killer. Not my usual type of read but glad I took a chance.

I finished my Nordic mystery - Norway - The Snowman by Joe Nesbo. I saw the trailer for the movie and was afraid it would be a really scary book (Stephen King scary) but it wasn't. Harry is up against a serial killer who kills on the first snowfall of the year, and leaves a snowman. In order to have a case that Harry could solve in a reasonable amount of time something pushes the killer over the edge and he kills multiple times. I like Harry Hole as a character, but this book was too long. They thought they'd caught the killer too many times. First time was half way through the book and I'm going, 'like really? You're catching the killer and the book is only half done? Duh, Harry, I think you're on the wrong track.' I'll keep reading Nesbo because even though Harry claims he's done, the last sentences in the book let us know that Harry's not going away.

Not familiar with this writer, however the movie previews made want to read this book. Unpredictable and interesting, hard to figure out where the story was going. Got me to get a map of Norway to figure out where the story took place.

This is my first Jo Nesbo book, AMAZING! I hope to read a few more of her 'Harry Hole' novels. It kept me guessing to who the killer was until the very end. And I liked how after the detective works out who the killer is you then get to see the killers side of the story and his life in short. But the suspense she created in her writing was what kept me hooked. Truly recommend, a great crime novel.

Just discovered this series (because of the movie about to release), and really enjoyed The Snowman. I felt it started off very exciting (couldn't put it down!), slowed down a little in the middle, but then ended strong! I plan to read the other Harry Hole books in this series.

Creepy as anything, this is definitely one of Nesbo's best. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for the entire book. Hole resembles Connelly's Bosch a bit too much (including their names of Harry!) but I like the cast of secondary characters. A terrific read!

Yet another gripping read from Jo Nesbo. The contemporary Oslo setting and disillusioned maverick of a main detective, along with a plot that kept turning, built to a masterful, startling conclusion. Gruesome murders that unfortunately turn snowmen into something like the demented circus clowns of horror movies. The detective Harry Hole as well as many of the characters have flawed personalities that manifest themselves in various ways. The setting is dark, cold, and somewhat depressing. A gripping read!

Creepy as hell, kept me guessing, turning the pages into the night. I thought the character of Katrine Bratt was amazing.

This is a real thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed. Harry Hole is the lead detective in a serial murder case in Oslo. The murders take place over a number of years and always on the day of the first snowfall. The perpetrator always leaves a full size snowman at the scene of the crime. Hole leads the investigation with his A-team and a woman police officer from Bergen. Several false leads end in arrests but if you pay attention, you can figure out the identity of the killer on your own.

Took wayyyy too long to get it figured out. The last chapters were the best. The rest kind of boring.

A taut, well written thriller about a serial killer in Oslo, Norway. Interesting learning about the Scandinavian landscape, police and legal system. Not for the faint of heart (rather gruesome torture/murder descriptions), but lots of red herrings to keep a reader interested and wondering until the end of this whodunit.

Thriller about a recovering alcoholic policeman who goes to the "beat of his own drum" tracking a gruesome serial killer - cliche sounding, I know. But I found it a clever and absorbing read. It is the seventh in a series but it reads easily as a stand alone novel

I like this book. It was the first one I read by the author and I will definitely want to read more. It's a good suspense, Harry Hole is a inspector with flaws, but he is able to piece together bits and pieces of information to find the killer. After receiving a strange letter from a killer known as the snowman, Harry Hole embark on a quest to find and arrest him. He manages to link together different missing people plus some murders. Little does he know that the killer may be close to him than he expect

Wow! This book never lets up in intensity. I really enjoyed it. The detective, Harry Hole, is typically flawed - alcohol and depression seem to be the issues - but the plot is exciting and even when you know who the snowman is, there is more nail-biting drama.

Ok so there are one or two paragraphs in this book where I was suprised by the graphic and almost vulgar nature of the descriptions but this is still a superior thriller that will have you totally gripped from the onset. Hole is a great anti-hero and is totally fleshed out by this novel in the series. His personal life is just as interesting as his detecting and it is a great credit to Nesbo that he has really created characters that you do care about. Bring on the Leopard

This was a very satisfying thriller. The plot was complex, but not in a gratuitous sense. The pschological aspect was excellent! I look forward to reading more of Nesbo's books.

A police crime novel that is set in Oslo, Norway. Harry Hole has taken an FBI course regarding serial killers and now there is one in Oslo. His calling card is a snowman. The Snowman is an interesting mystery that definitely kept me guessing until the end. I did not care for the police banter dialog. It was more like a TV drama than a novel.

I can't wait to read the rest of the Harry Hole thrillers! I loved Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell and am now a fan of Jo Nesbo. The Scandinavian crime fiction genre is fantastic - interesting characters, thrilling story lines and well written. The Snowman kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and was shocked and excited by the turn of events.
