As a Black, transgender musician, she felt like an outsider countless times and had to learn to trust in herself. In this interview, the confident and versatile artist talks about her very close and supportive relationship with her parents who raised her in Chicago. Later, New York was the perfect city where she finally found herself reflected in the trans community. Since the beginning of the 2000s, the talented musician has also called Berlin home. In conversation with Electronic Beats, she reflects how time and time again many of her wishes have come true. Honey Dijon is constantly driven by the many positive things in her life. When she was way younger, she would never have dreamed that she would one day collaborate on designs with Comme Des Garçons or that she could be so successful with her art as a Black, non-binary person. Besides gaining a lot of appreciation and visibility internationally with her career as a musician, she also became a relevant, influential voice in educational work on trans rights or the Black Lives Matter movement, which she is fully committed to, among other things. She takes a critical view of the idea of ​​being a role model for other people in the literal sense and considers this concept too static. She would much rather offer inspiration for various "role options" so that everyone can find just the right thing for them that makes them individually happy.
