Beschreibung
In the current episode of the Telekom Electronic Beats Podcast, host Jakob Thoene talks to 33-year-old Iranian-Dutch singer, songwriter and producer Sevda Alizadeh, alias Sevdaliza. The talented musician was born in Teheran into a Persian artistic family of poets and musicians and has lived in the Netherlands since she was five years old. In her youth she played basketball on a professional level, which she had to stop due to injuries. Later she studied communication and worked in marketing. Music has accompanied her for her entire life. During a trip to Brazil she experienced a new approach to music, and at the age of 24 she decided to make it her profession. Her music and special performance deliberately don’t fit into any pigeonhole. Sevdaliza sings in English and Farsi, uniting the Persian and Western worlds in her music. She works together with a select from her close circle of acquaintances and publishes her music on her own label Twisted Elegance, in order to keep her music as authentic as possible. In the podcast she shares her criticism of record labels and talks about “abused art”. She describes how her creativity comes into being and the power she draws from her sensitivity and spirituality, but also from dark moments. She describes how she perceives herself as an eternal underdog and gives listeners an intimate insight into her artistic and spiritual world.
