Full of twists and turns, sadness and bitterness, violence and peace. While the beginning felt rather weak, it's the middle and the end that more than make up for it. Absolutely brilliant story and characterizations. The ending was great.

Strange thing is, I read the sequel before I had read this. The sequel felt weak and lame, selling out to fantastical stories that undermine the pathos of this great run.

Although the basic premise is an obvious rip off of The Dark Knight Returns, the story becomes it's own pretty quickly. The world building is unique and handled well, through layers, rather than a data dump. It's all just a test to see what it will take to get Wolverine to fight back, though, and the pay off isn't ultimately worth the wait.

A dystopian vision of the Marvel Universe's future. I really enjoyed this! - Lucky

This is the Dark Knight Returns of Marvel, a post-apocalyptic Western that perfectly captures the essence of Wolverine. A majestically wonderful read written to perfection by the always great Mark Millar.

I read this in anticipation of seeing the new movie "Logan", and though I don't see the connection, I'm glad that I did! This takes place in an alt-future where the supervillains have won, and Logan has taken a vow of non-violence. However, Hawkeye has not, and he drags Logan into an adventure that tests the new vow to the extreme! It gets pretty darn good at the end! "No more games. No more talking...I'm just here to kill you people." 'Nuff said!

This hardcover offers a wonderful comic book story that gets into what it means to be Wolverine, even after he denies himself the right to use his claws. Taking place in an apocalyptic world where the villains have won and America is now separated into various zones of power held by several villains, Old Man Logan follows an old and weary Logan as he raises a family in the land occupied by the family of the Hulk. One day, a blind Hawkeye comes to him and offers him a job, one that Logan takes only after he realizes that he can't pay the taxes levied on his home by the Hulks.I loved how this comic found a lot of ways to create an actually compelling alternate universe, and one that has many new things to offer. It suffers a little bit from several issues that involve other plot lines that Millar was working on in different comics, but other than that, it's a fun read and very enjoyable.

Ultraviolent cross between The Dark Knight Returns and Unforgiven. Millar throws around a lot of cool concepts, with the road journey across the apocalyptic post-superhero America an ideal structure, and gives Steve McNiven a lot of memorable imagery to conjure with. Ultimately though it’s a little nihilistic and bleak for my tastes, although I appreciated the note of hope at the end.

What happens if the bad guys win, what happens when Logan gives up and becomes a farmer with a wife and kids, can he escape his past? It's an intersting story, I liked how occasionally there were nods to fans and interesting bits and pieces. I'd be interested in seeing what happens next, if there was a sequel, but I'd say Wolverine made the powers that be very unhappy.

Pound for pound, one of the best written Wolverine stories ever collected into one graphic novel. Wolverine: Old Man Logan by Mark Millar, artwork by Steve McNiven which should not go overlooked here, is a dark and foreboding view of the future of the Marvel Universe. The storyline was originally told in Wolverine 66-72 and the one-shot Wolverine: Old Man Logan Giant-Size back in 2003. Well before the current Death of Wolverine storyline."...Nobody knows what happened on the night the heroes fell. All we know is that they disappeared and evil triumphed and the bad guys have been calling the shots ever since. What happened to Wolverine is the biggest mystery of all. Some say they hurt him like no one ever hurt before. Others say he just grew tired of all the fighting and retired to a simpler life. Either way, he hasn't raised his voice or popped his claws in close to fifty years. His old friends would barely recognize him now..."Fifty years have passed since the night the superheroes fell. The night when the super-villains figured out the one thing that kept them from winning. The one thing that kept them from defeating the heroes. Working together. As a team. As an army. All of them and on one fateful night they all attacked. They didn't just want to defeat the heroes. They came to kill them. To eradicate them and then to divide what remained among themselves. In the West Coast, what had been California, Oregon and Washington, has become the domain of the Hulk and his inbred family. Here a farmer, a man named Logan, lives.Logan is a pacifist, sworn to never unleash his claws again. But times are hard and the rule of the Hulks is brutal. Late on his rent he takes a horrific beating in front of his family and as he lies recuperating, his healing factor kicking in, an old friend comes around with a job. The drug dealing smuggler who had once been the Avenger Hawkeye. The Avenger is delivering a package across the country and needs a driver, because the once sharp shooting archer is now blind. For the money, Logan agrees on the condition that Clint understands that under no conditions will Logan fight. He is only doing it to take car of his family. Clint agrees. The cross country road trip opens Logan's eyes to the country he had turned his back on. The desolation wrecked upon the land by the tyranny of the super villains. But it is not only the land and people that brings Logan back, but the buried memory of what happened on the night the Heroes fell. On what happened to the X-Men. On what happened to the Wolverine. But it is upon his return home that Logan learns an even more painful truth of what has happened to the world he now lives in. What it means to live under the tyranny of an evil ruler. What the Hulks and his old friend Bruce Banner are truly capable of.Wolverine: Old Man Logan is a serious story of loss and guilt and how one man must learn to live with the mistakes he has made. And what happens when a peaceful man gets pushed too far. The story and artwork are a cross between a classic western and the Mad Max movies. It is bloody. It is stark. Its is soul rendering. It is a damn good story. This is one not to be missed. If you think you know Wolverine, you don't know Wolverine.

A gritty Western post-apocalyptic superhero tale. The Avengers and other superheroes have been defeated by supervillains and America is a mess dominated by various bad guys. Wolverine has given up violence and just wants to manage his farm with his wife and children. But he is broke so he accepts a job from the now old and blind Hawkeye to travel to the east coast. The story is OK but the artwork is pretty good. Everything is beaten up. Old (and dead) ex-superheroes are everywhere. There are some brutal bits too. And unlike most superhero comics, they can and will die.
