An amusing little anecdote that entertained me through work and explained the playful nature behind how my newest work is run. It's not too bad, even if the ending is a little too forced.

What bothers me about books like this is that they are short little fantasies that tie up loose ends too cleanly. And I only read this book because we were told to at work for a "team-building exercise." Perhaps a good message, but I don't need it.

I've read this before and this new version isn't much different, just some extra example stories at the end. Still quite some value in this book, just disappointing that the whole company around it has become very commercialised.

Some good ideas, rather trite presentation.

This story has an allegorical feel about it as it provides insight into how to turn a toxic energy dump into a fun place to work.

The book essentially talks about one idea - 'Work made fun gets done.' In particular it deals with how to save the workplace from becoming a 'toxic energy dump'.

    The fish! Philosophy -

    1. Bring the right attitude to work - Choose your attitude just like you would in a rough neighbourhood - where you don't show nerve.

    2. Play - Fun is energizing and helps a serious business.

    3. Make their day - Include Customers in your good time; create goodwill.

    4. Be Present - Not tied down by the past or dreaming away into the future. Giving full attention is the surest sign of a good relationship.

I like the concepts, though I found the story to be a bit lacking. We've instituted these practices at work and I've got to say that I'm enjoying it. Having fun at work is HUGELY important and this book teaches to that concept.

A condenscending little book that takes you for an idiot. Which is very unfortunate, because the message is important. The ideas could have been presented in 10 minutes on two sheets of paper - but then Lundin wouldn@t have made a fortune.

We are all looking for enjoyment and satisfaction from our work where we spend about 75% of our awake time. This book is a fictional account of a workplace that is a ‘toxic energy dump’ and the motivational management techniques that are put in place to help the workers love the work they do even if they can’t always be doing the work they love. It is based on four lessons: ‘choose your attitude’, ‘play’, ‘make their day’ and ‘be present’. This book was interesting as a quick read with some principles that may be useful in the workplace as long as you can get past its ‘Americanisms.’

An easy to read, very true book. Not quite a mind boggling story. However, after reading the book you'll find that some principles indeed are quite useful and essential (such as fun in work, honest interest in people etc.) to create a healthy work environment.

A fun little ditty that can be read in about an hour.

Decent, simple advice: Choose your attitude; Play; Be present in the moment; and Make your customer's day. Awful backstory to present the four maxims - very saccharine and annoying.

This is the worst book I have ever read.

As it is also too slender to act as a doorstop and too light to use as a functional defense mechanism, it has no redeemable value whatsoever.

A good workplace recommendation. Thanks boss.

Fish is written as a personal parable much in the fashion of Ishmael, making the structure and information much easier to digest and relate to. A well chosen story path displaying many traits, doubts, and questions, which readers can see themselves in. Not epiphanic, but still uplifting.

A great way to pick up your attitude about work. We all pretty much hate it, is the theme, but we can't really afford to have that attitude if we hope to have a satisfying life. This books gives very specific advice on how to improve your attitude about work, and therefore your life.
