She went into the army after high school, and there she met her ex-husband. She was a clerk typist in the army. She was honorably discharged, and she returned to Flint, where her family resided. She got married to a soldier she met in Germany, where she had been stationed. The marriage produced one child. His name was Joseph Saunders, and he passed away at the age of twenty-three. He was her only child.
In 1991 she moved herself to Gleason, Tennessee, where she became a sewing machine operator. She decided one day that she wanted to be more than just a sewing machine operator, so she went back to school. She enrolled at the University of Tennessee–Martin and got her bachelor’s degree in child and family studies.
After graduation, she applied at the Weakley County Board of Education to be a substitute teacher. She worked for them for about thirteen years. After her son’s death from alcohol poisoning, she went back to school and earned her master’s degree in addiction counseling from Grand Canyon University in Arizona, where she participated in online education. She is now a crisis counselor in Tennessee.weniger sehen
