After graduating from Loretto Academy, Niagara Falls, Ontario, she attended D’Youville College, Buffalo, New York, where she received a bachelor’s degree in English and education. Subsequently, after some experience in the merchandising field, she taught high school English in Ripley, New York, and at Bishop McMahon Diocesan High School in Buffalo while pursuing graduate studies at Canisius College.
In 1955, Mary married J. Alan Davitt; in 1967, Mary, Alan, and their five children (George, Alan, Mary, Dan, Mark) moved to Albany, New York. There she raised her six children (John being born in 1971) while teaching religious education at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Delmar, New York, serving on its parish council as lector and eucharistic minister and as president of its Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity for over thirty years and served as their president from 1996 to 1997. She also enjoyed many years as an active member of the Delmar Progress Club and the Vanguard Albany Symphony.
Mary, an avid reader of poetry, is a published poet in her own right. Though she loves gardening, gourmet cooking, and photography, she now spends most of her time with her children and grandchildren. The most important thing in her life is her family. She would do anything to bring them joy and peace. Faith, family, and good friends have made life beautiful for her.weniger sehen
