Since reaching the age of eighty and finding himself less mobile than formerly he has amused himself by writing essays, pretending to be a newspaper columnist, sports writer, book reviewer, political commentator, mathematician and scientist – or whatever else took his fancy – drawing on his experiences in industry, education (as student and teacher, examiner and governor), naval rating and parent. Occasionally he has included something autobiographical, so that the reader (if ever there is one) can see what makes him tick). Everything has been written off the top of his head; no notes or reference books, so not a hint of historical accuracy, so if you are upset by anything please accept his unreserved apologies.weniger sehen
