He made films in Greece, Sri Lanka, India, Brazil, Japan and Australia. His film Iramudun won the Blue ribbon in cultural studies at the American Film Festival in 1984 and a major prize at the International Anthropology Film Festival in Parnu Estonia.He was the first anthropologist to produce a single system super 8 full-length ethnographic documentary Passing Shadows: Death Ritual in Western Crete and the first to use video extensively in field research and film production. In 1989 He received the Anthropos-Omega award for lifetime contribution to visual anthropology at the same time as Jean Rouch, Claudine de France and Karl Heider.
