D.D. Wright was raised in the Bronx, located in New York City. She was raised by her mother with great support from relatives and the communities that she encountered. Growing up in an urban setting, D.D. Wright has been exposed to harsh realities. Her writing reflects those observations as well as a sense of determination to overcome them.
She graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School. She later obtained her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology as well as her Masters of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, from Herbert H. Lehman College. D.D. Wright has been an elementary and junior high school teacher in New York City since 2002. She currently teaches Creative Writing to junior high school students in the Bronx. In addition to teaching, she is also a certified Life Coach.
D.D. Wright has been writing poetry for two decades. She has slammed (spoken word) poetry at clubs such as The Nuyorican Poet's Cafe and the Sugarshack in New York City. Her poems, “Why” and “Death Games”, have been published in anthologies by The National Library of Poetry as a result of winning national poetry contests.
She currently resides in the Bronx. In her spare time, D.D. Wright enjoys reading, traveling as well as spending time with her daughter, family and friends. She has volunteered her time to causes which support juvenile diabetes, prematurity and education.
