Francis Schmidt is a lifelong student of history and anthropology. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Edinboro and his graduate work in geology at Kent State University under a grant from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Through the course of his life he has experienced many extremes: homelessness and great wealth as well as being a world record holder athlete and published poet. He is one of the few people ever to compete on the world stage in both poetry and a international sport in the same year.
