In late 1943 he was discharged with TB and spent two periods totaling 20 months in a TB Hospital and a Sanatorium.
In 1947 he married and having recovered, worked as electrician in the Construction Industry until December 1956 when the disease broke out again. He underwent surgery, was treated with modern drugs and cured.
He later served as Trade Union Official for Electrical, Electronic and Plumbing Trades Union, National Officer for the British Airline Pilots Association and National Organiser for the National Union of Licensed Victualers.
