Outstanding artwork, but since I don't usually follow the comics, the storyline was a bit difficult for me to follow. Dawn Golden is a socialite from Bruce Wayne's youth. She's gone missing in Gotham and Batman is determined to find her. Along the way he encounters Killer Croc, the Penguin and Entrigan.

I was pretty disappointed with the story, however, the art is amazing. I guess this is proof that David Finch should stick to artwork and not story writing. The overall story seems very generic, heavy drawn out conversations, and riddled with loose-ends.

Pretty much everything I dislike about Batman. He becomes emotionally attached to some girl from he past for no good reason. He fight Demons that are way out of his depth. His detective skills showcased would make the Great Mouse Detective laugh.

In my obsession with Batman I borrowed a bunch of Batman comics from the library including this one. I'm reading everything out of order so sometimes things get a little confusing. Thankfully this one wasn't too hard to understand.I thought this one was more personal than other Batman comics because it gives the reader a glimpse into Bruce Wayne's childhood and his old friend, Dawn Golden. The plot was interesting, but predictable. Also there seemed to be a lot going on at the same time. Everything was a little scattered. Instead of putting so many plot points in his first novel, Finch should have saved some of it for later volumes. The artwork is good though and I would definitely read more from this author.

Surprisingly disappointing. Without prior knowledge of the Batman mythos there will be a lot shrouded in mystery. At the end of the volume I was left feeling bewildered and uncertain as to whether I will read volume 2.
