The forest was where, with the neighborhood kids and our intermingled dog pack, we explored the mountain every day. Not far from where we lived was a buffalo preserve. We loved to see the buffalo calves sprinting, rolling, and tumbling as they played. It is this delight that I would like to pass on to young children through my story and illustrations.
"As a child I was intrigued by dioramas and the idea of being able to run and play inside a miniature imaginary world. I wanted to recreate that feeling with the artwork in this book. All of the characters and landscapes are formed using hand-cut, sculpted and layered, brightly colored paper. The art work is intended to tell a part of the story that the words can't tell. It is designed to make children feel as though they can walk into the pictures."
