Her presentation in the poetry category of the Music, Dance and Poetry competition at Sugar Ray's in Newark, N.J. placed her in first place with her winning poem “Mourning Glory”. "Mourning Glory" tells the story of an old vine (a Morning Glory) a sun-dried weeping flower that's got a story to tell. Indeed, she does. “Mourning Glory" is also the title poem from her self-published novel of the same name and based on her real life account. The book was inspired by Imani McClendon's ordeal as an abused child, the torment of a suffered marriage and her self-imposed struggles with crack cocaine.
Imani McClendon was educated in the public school system in N.J. and later earned her F.C.C. license at the New York School of Announcing and Speech. She is a seasoned news announcer and radio personality with fourteen years experience presenting in several formats from gospel and R&B to soft rock and middle of the road. She has also been known to do a little free lance writing for “In the Spotlight” a budding magazine. Imani especially enjoys delving enthusiastically into the fine arts, while honing in on her self-taught skill as an oil painter. Included in her work is a winning first place canvassed oil painting of the Vaudeville era, which depicts several musicians, and a tap dancer, atop a huge piano. Other works of art include a depiction of Marilyn Monroe, and also Barack Obama.
Many wonder how she survived the struggle. But, Imani is a winning inspiration, who writes not as a victim, but as a victor, to warn others about the bumpy ride of foolishness and to warn them of the breach in the road as it comes to its end.weniger sehen
